  • Every page in your website should have some method by which people can send you feedback. A link to a page with a form for people to send info has itís upsides as you can control the input fields and what kind of feedback you allow, but you can never be certain of the writers email address. A mailto: tag ensures that the person sending feedback has access to some form of valid email account, but a basic mailto: tag does not inform you where they sent mail from. However, JavaScript can easily construct a mailto link with attributes of the current document in the subject or body of a new email message. The following example will demonstrate two mailto: links. The first will place the document title in the subject of the email, the second will place the url in the subject of a new mail message. While people can easily remove these items from the mail message, typically they do not and it can offer you valuable information on which pages are getting the most feedback.
